Photos Capture Devastating Impact Of Plastic Waste From Pacific Gyre On Birds

Hopefully you know Chris Jordan‘s work.  If not, a visit to his site is highly recommended.  His masterful works breath life into mind-numbing statistics by graphically putting into perspective numbers our minds cannot meaningfully grasp.

Certainly by now you’ve heard of the Pacific Gyre–the expansive flotilla of debris and plastic waste gradually accumulating in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.

One of Mr. Jordan’s recent works is a trip to Midway Islands.  Midway, located in the middle of the North Pacific, sits near the apex of the Pacifc Gyre.  Chris’ photographs poignantly capture the devastating impact plastic waste has on the sea birds that nest on the island and feed in the surrounding waters.  The images underscore the interconnectedness between our daily choices and the most remote locations on earth.

Also highly recommended is a visit to  The Journey | Midway for additional information, images and video about the Midway trip.  Incredible work that should give us all pause to reflect on the collective results of our seemingly innocuous individual choices.
