Stanford Hospital is known worldwide for advanced patient care, particularly for the treatment of rare and complex disorders in areas such as cardiac care, cancer treatment, neurology and neurosurgery, obstetrics and organ transplants. Stanford Hospital and physicians consistently rank among the top in the nation in surveys conducted by consumers and health care professionals.

Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) unit at Stanford Hospital
The Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) unit at Stanford Hospital treats some of the most vulnerable patients. After transplant surgery, patient's are highly susceptible to infection but to encourage a fast recovery, drinking a lot of water is imperative. Patients recovering from bone marrow transplant are carefully monitored for the first 100 days following a transplant.

Until Stanford Hospital staff was introduced to the innowave® systems, they provided sterile water in plastic bottles from a medical supplier. The water was used for patient drinking water as well as ice making, but it tasted flat, cost a lot of money, and created tons of plastic waste to be recycled. The biggest problem was getting the patients to drink enough water when they disliked the taste.

Angela Johns, BMT Clinical Program Manager, was introduced to the innowave systems that used a new hybrid distillation process and was tested to meet ® USEPA Standards for Microbial Water Purification. She installed four innowave® distillation systems in the department.

Now, as patients come in for follow up services, they can take water from the innowave® systems in the outpatient services area with them when they leave.
