Hospital

The
Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) unit at Stanford Hospital treats some of
the most vulnerable patients. After transplant surgery, patient's are
highly susceptible to infection but to encourage a fast recovery, drinking
a lot of water is imperative. Patients recovering from bone marrow transplant
are carefully monitored for the first 100 days following a transplant.

Until Stanford Hospital staff was introduced to the innowave® systems, they
provided sterile water in plastic bottles from a medical supplier. The water was
used for patient drinking water as well as ice making, but it tasted flat, cost a lot of
money, and created tons of plastic waste to be recycled. The biggest problem
was getting the patients to drink enough water when they disliked the taste.
Angela Johns, BMT Clinical Program
Manager, was introduced to the innowave systems that
used a new hybrid distillation process and was tested
to meet ® USEPA Standards for Microbial Water Purification.
She installed four innowave® distillation systems in
the department.
Now, as patients come in for
follow up services, they can take water from the innowave®
systems in the outpatient services area with them when
they leave.
